About SEPT / Septin:

Septin proteins are GTP-binding proteins that are present in the cell division of eukaryotic cells with the exception of plants. Septin or SEPT, as they are commonly known, derive their name from septum, which is a part of a cell where cell division or cytokinesis takes place.

SEPT Structure
SEPT can turn into a ring called the septin ring. The ring forms around a cell as it is about to enter cytokinesis. Cytokinesis is what happens to a cell right after the conclusion of meiosis or mitosis. The result of cytokinesis is two separate cells that form out of one cell. It is the ongoing process of cell division.

Septin Mechanism
As far as the septin ring is concerned, the ring will form around the cell during the start of this process. As the process progresses, the ring will then turn into an hourglass shape as it works its way through the cell. The ring will then go through the cell on either side until it splits the cell into two. The ring will then continue to split cells until an organism is formed.
In yeast, Septin will form a cage around cells or a part of a cell and offer it support during cell division. Septin in yeast plays the role of construction worker.
In human cells, SEPT will form a cage around bacteria and isolate the bacteria and trap it. By doing this, the bacteria cannot spread to neighboring cells or continue to harm the cell that cage has been built on.
